Sue's Version:
Ingredients:
½ half cup butter melted
3 cups flour
½ tsp salt
2/3 cup warm water
Directions:
In stand mixer, fitted with paddle or whisk, I prefer whisk. Add flour, melted butter, salt and water, mix until soft ball forms, about 1 to 2 minutes. Line a warm pan with parchment paper put in dough top with lid to pan, let rest for 30 to 45 minutes.
Apple filling:
!/3 cup rasins golden or dark your choice, put in bowl and cover with hot water and let plump, rasins are optional.
3 tbsp’s maple syrup, or rum, I prefer maple syrup
9 med apples use what you prefer, I used 2 granny smith, 3 fuji, and 4 cosmic crisps slice and chop,
2 tsp lemon juice
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
½ cup almonds, slivered, if desired
Directions:
Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine cinnamon and sugar, spread over apples with lemon juice, lemon is to keep apples from browning,
Combine, add maple syrup mix well set aside.
Get dough, you can either work with the whole dough or cut it in half and just work with half, I find it easier to do half and just make two, strudels.
Flour your table,
take dough and roll out as thin as you can,
pick up dough in pizza fashion and stretch the dough thinner until mostly transparent,
Begin by generously applying melted butter to the pastry. Utilize a slotted spoon to ensure the excess juice is left behind. Leave a two-inch border on each side. Employ either your hands or a table cloth to delicately roll the pastry, commencing from the top. Proceed by folding the sides over the apples in an envelope-like fashion. Continue the rolling process.
Place the prepared strudel on parchment paper, either sprayed with cooking spray or spread with butter, ensuring the seam side is facing down. Apply a thin layer of butter on the strudel. Bake in the oven for an initial 25 minutes. After this duration, remove from the oven and, if needed, add a bit more butter. Return to the oven for an additional 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
Once done, take the strudel out of the oven and serve. Optionally, top with powdered sugar for an added touch. For enhanced flavor, consider sprinkling cinnamon and sugar after applying the melted butter.
Enjoy.
